Ierland
Ierland is samen met Zweden een van de twee landen die het vaakst het Songfestival wonnen: zeven keer. Waarvan drie jaar op rij:
1992: Linda Martin met Why me
1993: Niamh Kavanagh met In your eyes
1994: Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan met Rock 'n' roll kids
en daarna - na één jaartje niet - opnieuw in 1996: Eimear Quinn met The voice.
De eerste winst stamde overigens uit 1970, met de lieflijke Dana en haar al even zoete All kinds of everything. Ierland is ook het land met de enige artiest die twee keer won: Johnny Logan, in 1980 (What's another year) en 1987 (Hold me now). Voeg daar nog vier tweede plaatsen aan toe en het is niet verwonderlijk dat Ierland óók hoog staat in onze alternatieve ranglijst: die waarin met percentages wordt gewerkt.
Hoewel het land bij de 'traditionele Eurovisiedeelnemers' hoort, debuteerde het vrij laat - pas in 1965. De laatste jaren doen de Ieren het overigens een stuk minder: de finale wordt nog maar zelden gehaald.
